I woke up this morning out of a dead sleep not exactly sure where I was. I think I was mentally still in NYC, so it took me a minute to figure out my location and the identity of the person waking me up (turns out the answers were 1) Philadelphia and 2) my brother).
When I came to, I realized this is it. My phone is staying here in Philly, so I am now off the grid. I'm in this wierd state of serenity about it all...except for the raging heartburn...
I know I'm forgetting stuff, but it's too late now, so I'll just have to start winging it.

I Love NY

So only slightly calmer than the last post today (the eve of my international departure), but at least I had a great time in NYC with Aaron. I hadn't seen him in 6 years, so it was great to catch up. Plus, I saw the last Yankees/Sox game at Yankee Stadium, which was really cool. The Yankees won, which makes my Boston heart cringe, but at the same time it was nice that they could end this phase of the rivalry on a high note. Giambi walkoff homer in the last inning - behold "the power of the 'stache!" (I know, you may commence the stoning now) But I got what my traitorous heart deserved though. As you can see in the photo, I have a raging sunburn. 3 bottles of sunscreen in my giant backpack and not a single drop on me at the ballpark. I guess with Boston's summer of no sunshine this year, I'd forgotten I could still get one here...
Plus I just love NYC. Mmmmm...dinner in Little Italy then stretching out for a nap in Central Park on a cool afternoon. Life is good.

OMG OMG OMG

Oh my god, I can't believe I leave Boston in three days. THREE DAYS!!! I'm torn between excitement and abject terror. A week from right now I will be walking out of the Accra airport with nothing but a bag, a passport, and far less than half a clue. I'm picturing myself with a blank look on my face staring out at the swirl of taxis and not even knowing what to do next. I don't even have any real sense of where I'm going once I get off the plane! I've got a reservation for two days at a guesthouse that looks nice, but after that I have exactly zero planned.
Of course it doesn't help that my to do list of stuff to do before I leave seems to be getting longer rather than shorter. Murphy's Law is at work and everything that can get messed up has gotten messed up. Freak-o bills I have to call and contest, lost prescriptions, a deer bouncing off the hood of my car in NY this past weekend, my laptop with all my research frying a circuit...it's as if the third world is getting a head start on me.
